Abstract

Social inequality is a persistent structural problem in modern society, characterized by disparities in access to education, economic opportunities, social services, and decent living opportunities. Islamic Religious Education (PAI), as an integral part of the national education system, holds strategic potential in developing awareness, values, and behaviors that foster social justice. This literature review aims to analyze the role of PAI in reducing social inequality through the internalization of Islamic values ​​oriented toward equal rights, social justice, solidarity, and community empowerment. The research was conducted by reviewing various scientific articles, books, and recent research findings on Islamic education, social justice, and social character development. The study's findings indicate that PAI contributes through three main aspects. First, the theological-normative aspect, namely the instillation of the values ​​of monotheism (tauhid), brotherhood (ukhuwwah), justice ('adl), and anti-discrimination as emphasized in the Qur'an and Hadith. Second, the pedagogical aspect, through the PAI curriculum, which integrates social character education, empathy, equality, and the cultivation of caring for others. Third, the sociological aspect, namely the practice of community empowerment through socio-religious activities, Islamic philanthropy, and strengthening sharia-based economic literacy. Thus, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) can function as an effective instrument in shaping a more egalitarian, inclusive, and socially just society. This research recommends the development of a more transformative and participatory PAI learning model to strengthen its role in addressing social inequality.
